I began taking piano lessons around age 8 and made my own "home-made guitar" from a shoebox and rubberbands. Around this time, I also discovered that I had the natural ability to sing, which led to my 1st singing group "The Silvertones".
Started learning trumpet in 1968 at Hirsch High School in the Beginner's Band (playing 3rd & 4th trumpet). By my 3rd year, I had advanced to the Concert Band (playing 1st trumpet) under the direction of George Hunter. For several years later, I played in numerous local bands and began to "Gig" and experience getting paid. This early experience was very exciting. By the time I reached my early 20's I had become quite serious musically.
Around this time I joined a local band with some very talented musicians (Bobby Irving - Keys, Richard Patterson - Bass and Vince Wilburn - Drums). We recorded the 1st Album I was ever a part of at P & S Studios in Chicago. I continued my musical path and began learning how to record music. I purchased my 1st 4-trk Recording Unit ( by Tascam). I continued to learn Recording and began Producing my own Music. In 1978, I attended Chicago State University and studied Jazz Improvisation under the musical direction of Educator Bunky Green.
I later met a pnenominal person and "best friend" and began doing Session work for him (Jukube Felton - 24 Track Studio). He also taught me more about Recording. I later married my current wife Andrea DeMartra who is also a gifted musician (Pianist and Educator, specializing in Music Theory) and has also helped in making me and even better musician. My wife and I work together on various musical projects including: Jazz, R&B, Hip Hop, Neo Soul, and Gospel music genres.
